The municipal strategic initiative Alicante Futura is pleased to invite you to the presentation of the study “PUBLIC PROCUREMENT AS A CATALYST FOR GOVTECH ECOSYSTEMS”.

The study, which will be presented for the first time in Spain, carried out by CAF, Development Bank of Latin America and IDOM and will be attended by Mr. Enrique Zapata, Ms. Sandra Sinde and Mr. Guillermo Mas, on Tuesday 7 June at 16:30 hrs, at the Colegio Territorial de Arquitectos de Alicante.

Govtech is an ecosystem in which governments collaborate with startups, SMEs and other actors that use data intelligence, digital technologies and innovative methodologies to provide products and services to solve public and citizen problems.

GovTech also proposes a possible scenario of collaboration between entrepreneurship and government action, focusing on the stages of implementation of public policies and their development, as well as on how they fit into the contractual relationship with public administrations, highlighting formulas such as Public Procurement of innovation, for which Alicante City Council itself has been committed with Alicante Futura.

In this context, Spain leads the ranking of implementation of Public Procurement of Innovation (PPI) in Latin America, followed by Brazil and Portugal according to the study on Public Procurement as a catalyst for Govtech ecosystems, prepared by CAF and IDOM, however, the development of Govtech ecosystems is very incipient in our country.

According to the study, there is a high demand and interest from startups and scaleups in this new relationship model with governments interested in acquiring innovation and technology, also in our territory.

If we want to put governments in “startup mode” and be more agile and efficient, we need to improve awareness and outreach to startups and scaleups, as 84% of respondents stated that they have not had access to PPI information from the different government entities in each of the countries.

The Alicante Futura GovTech Hub works to consolidate, with the best allies, a productive ecosystem of technology and government in our city, claiming the leadership and capital of Alicante in this process of innovation and opportunities for our ecosystem.
